52 week savings challenge (UK): save £1,378 with a printable tracker

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4-minute read · UK

Save £1 in week 1, £2 in week 2, all the way to £52 in week 52. Stick with it and you'll have £1,378, plus a very smug pig.

The catch: December

Start in January and your biggest weeks land in December, when money is already tight. The last four weeks alone add up to £202.

Do it in reverse

Start with £52 in week 1 and finish with £1. Same £1,378, but the hard weeks come while your motivation is fresh, and December is easy. Starting in spring works too.

Make it lazy

Set up a weekly standing order into a separate savings pot. If your bank can't do increasing amounts, pay in on Sunday and tick the box. Or pick any week's amount you can afford that week and cross it off. You still save the full total.

Scale it up or down

Double it (£2 steps) for £2,756, or halve it for £689. Choose a level you can finish. Finishing a small one beats quitting a big one.

How much is laziness costing you?

Our 20-second UK calculator adds up takeaways, unused subscriptions and not switching. The yearly total is usually a shock.
